Liverpool’s Bobby Duncan is already attracting interest.
Liverpool may have grabbed headlines with big-money moves for Brazilian duo Alisson and Fabinho over the summer, but youngster Bobby Duncan also arrived at Anfield.
There wasn’t much fanfare about Duncan’s move, and that’s understandable; a teenager moving for just £200,000 (The Telegraph) isn’t exactly a huge move, but it’s already proving to be a bargain for Liverpool.
The 17-year-old forward has played just seven U18 Premier League games for Liverpool, but already has a stunning record of six goals and three assists.
The problem for Liverpool is that, just months after his bargain move, Duncan is already attracting interest, with Borussia Dortmund keen according to The Mirror.
Dortmund already have one top English talent in Jadon Sancho, and they managed to convince him to leave Manchester City in 2017 with the promise of more first-team opportunities earlier in his career.
The Bundesliga side may now look to offer the same promises to Duncan in order to tempt him over to Germany, and that may leave Jurgen Klopp needing to give Duncan some first-team exposure to show him his future lies with Liverpool.
Duncan has already been called in for first-team training, and whilst he shouldn’t be contending for first-team football right now, fast-tracking him into the reckoning and for cup ties may be a smart move.
City didn’t do that with Sancho, and he ended up leaving – yet if Liverpool can convince Duncan that Anfield is the place for him, then he can become a first-team star, just like his cousin Steven Gerrard.
