If you had to pick Liverpool’s Player of the Season so far, obviously it would be Mohamed Salah.

With 22 goals in 24 outings across all competitions, Salah is a massive player for Liverpool once again.

But leaving aside the Egypt international, one could argue that Thiago Alcantara is the Reds’ second-best performer since the start of the campaign.

It was an inconsistent first year for Thiago at Anfield following a £20 million move from Bayern Munich in 2020.

But this time around the 30-year-old has been oozing class on a regular basis – and Liverpool fans might well see him back in action tomorrow night.

Influence

A positive coronavirus test has ruled Thiago out of action for the past two games.

One was a 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur and the other, a 3-3 stalemate with Leicester City in the League Cup.

It might not be a coincidence that Jurgen Klopp’s side failed to win without the Spain international in midfield, such is his influence.

But Thiago revealed on Boxing Day that he has now recovered from the virus and now looks poised to return to the squad at least on Tuesday.

Liverpool are facing Leicester again, this time on the Premier League stage and on this occasion, at the King Power Stadium.

With Klopp’s side six points behind Manchester City – albeit with a game in hand – victory is essential for the Reds.

And truthfully, their odds of winning go way up if the former Barcelona maestro starts the clash.
