Well, Fabio Vieira joining Arsenal is looking a certainty at this point, but might Liverpool have played a role in this imminent addition?

According to Pedro Sepulveda, a Portuguese journalist, the Porto midfielder is about to join Arsenal in a £34 million transfer.

Vieira, linked with a switch to Liverpool earlier in the summer, is expected to pass his medical on Friday and from then it’ll be a matter of time before the Gunners announce their first major capture of the summer, having signed Marquinhos earlier this week.

This is one that has really come out of the blue and many supporters of the Emirates Stadium outfit are delighted.

But do Arsenal have Liverpool to thank? Well, possibly.

That’s because The Sunday Mirror [print edition 15/05, page 77] reported, as covered by HITC Sport, that the Anfield club had ‘first refusal’ on the player.

And if that’s accurate, Liverpool have evidently passed up the opportunity to exercise that option in a decision which the North Londoners look to benefit from.

The Reds have an excellent relationship with Porto, who sold them Luis Diaz for £49 million during the January transfer window.

And it’s that relationship which reportedly gave Liverpool the first option on Vieira.

However, the addition of 18-year-old Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen will reportedly spell the end of Klopp’s business [The Times], having also signed Darwin Nunez and Fabio Carvalho this summer.

Despite having first refusal on the Portuguese maestro, it would appear Klopp has shut up shop until January and if Vieira proves a major success at Arsenal, well perhaps Mikel Arteta owes his German counterpart a cheeky thank you.
