Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp insists he is not getting carried away by the performances of EFL Cup star Sadio Mane, ESPN has reported.

Mane, who arrived at Anfield from Southampton for £30 million in June, was one of the standout performers during the 5-0 win over Burton Albion on Tuesday, and has attracted plenty of plaudits since his move from the south coast.

The 24-year-old’s performance at the Pirelli Stadium arguably further highlighted how much he was missed during the 2-0 defeat Burnley at the weekend.

However, Klopp says expectations surrounding the Senegal international need to be kept in check, despite his impressive showings, adding that the focus should instead be on ensuring his side shows an overall improvement.

According to ESPN, he told reporters after the game: “I like this player but I do not like talking about him too much. We do not have to celebrate ourselves every day just because we have bought him. We have to try and improve.

“There is nothing else to say about this at the moment.”
