Jurgen Klopp has hinted that Liverpool could be handed a boost on Tuesday because there is a possibility that Jordan Henderson could return to ‘full training’ ahead of their clash against Leeds United.

Henderson missed Liverpool’s pre-season thumping of Blackpool over the weekend and Klopp told the club’s official website that it made ‘no sense’ in even playing him for 10 minutes during that contest.

The Premier League champions begin the defence of their crown on Saturday when they welcome the champions of the Championship to Anfield.

It remains to be seen whether Liverpool’s conductor is leading the way in the middle of the park against Leeds, but judging by Klopp’s comments, things are looking positive.

“Obviously Hendo was desperate to play a few minutes today as well, but it makes no real sense because he had to do an important session today for him,” Klopp told the club’s official website.

“If he would have played today, 10 minutes or so would have probably been OK. But that makes no sense. So that was not possible, but he trained in big parts of this week and will probably join full team training next Tuesday.

“We will see how he develops, [there are] a few days until Leeds, how the boys come back from the national teams. A lot of open questions still, but a few hopefully we can answer today.”

Liverpool’s trophies under Jurgen Klopp

  1. Champions League

    2018/19

  2. UEFA Super Cup

    2019

  3. FIFA Club World Cup

    2019

  4. Premier League

    2019/20

Whilst both Liverpool and Leeds will be over the moon to be in their current positions, it will be a sour taste in their mouths because their fans aren’t able to celebrate their recent success with them.

Supporters could be given the chance to return to stadiums, at a reduced capacity, in October, which will provide the Anfield and Elland Road faithful the chance to see their team in action as the Premier League champions, and in Leeds’ case, a top-tier side for the first time in 16 years.

On the field of play, it’s set up to be a mouthwatering tie between two high-pressing teams and world-renowned coaches in Klopp and Marcelo Bielsa.
