Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been talking to the club’s website about the side’s match with Leicester City on Saturday, and he had praise for the Premier League champions, as well as a word of warning for the Reds and their fans.

The Reds are actually one of the last sides to beat the Foxes in the league, sneaking a 1-0 win at Anfield on Boxing Day last year. Claudio Ranieri’s side lost just won more game after that all season, against Arsenal on Valentine’s Day, and though they suffered a surprise defeat to Hull City on the first day of the new season, they have managed to draw against the Gunners this time round as well as picking up three points against Swansea.

And Klopp made it clear that he was still expecting Leicester to be a challenge for his side despite the new campaign, with Jamie Vardy proving to be the match winner in their other game last season – a 2-0 win at the King Power Stadium in early February.

“Leicester, we had time over the international break to analyse them and they are still strong and it will be really competitive,” the German told Liverpoolfc.com.

“They are still greedy [for success], they have a good attitude still so nothing happened with them becoming champions and becoming a little bit lazy – no, unfortunately not.

“That was really well deserved last year and the longer the season went on everyone could see that it wasn’t a surprise.

“But we don’t have to think about what Leicester can do, we have to think about what is possible for us and we have to use the time we have for good training, learning about our game.

“We had the first three games and the results, if you mix it up, you say at Arsenal, OK you can lose, at Burnley you have to win and Tottenham [Hotspur] you can draw. But of course everybody saw it could have been a few more [points].”

Liverpool supporters shouldn’t be too disappointed with their opening three games, having visited two of the their top four rivals and leaving undefeated and with four points in the bag. Of course, the loss to Burnley was a wake up call after the Arsenal victory, but with a series of home matches to come, Klopp and his players have provided a solid start for the season to push on from.

If they can add to that with a win over the champs at the bigger, better Anfield, then there will be genuine reason to look up once more.
