Jurgen Klopp has revealed that nobody at Liverpool knows how long Diogo Jota will be sidelined for.
The Portugal international came off injured during the Champions League victory at Inter MIlan in midweek.
The Liverpool manager confirmed this afternoon that the 25-year-old suffered ankle ligament damage.
However, Klopp also added that the Reds’ medical team are unsure over the prognosis and timeframe.
He told a press conference: “Diogo is now out and we don’t know how long for. He is not available this weekend. The extent is still not clear – we need further assessment. It is something to do with the ligaments around the ankle.”
Worrying
This is indeed a very worrying update by the Liverpool boss.
The fact that the Merseysiders don’t know how long he’ll be out for might indicate that it isn’t a short-term layoff.
And honestly, Jota has been carrying Liverpool for much of 2022 thus far.
With Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah spending most of the calendar year at Africa Cup of Nations, the former Wolverhampton Wanderers forward took it upon himself to take up the goalscoring burden.
Jota netted doubles against both Arsenal and Leicester City, as well as one in an FA Cup victory over Cardiff City.
He has been Liverpool’s go-to-guy for game-changing moments these past couple of months and if he’s out for a while, it’s a massive blow.
