Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Joel Matip is back in full training for Liverpool.
The Premier League champions have missed their big centre-back in recent weeks due to injury.
Actually, Matip has been drifting in and out of the treatment room at Liverpool’s training ground for much of the past two years.
But with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez out with long-term knee injuries, there has been a greater reliance on keeping the Cameroon international fit in recent months and he has struggled.
Liverpool needed him available for Sunday’s visit of Manchester United but still emerged with a 0-0 draw despite playing Fabinho and Jordan Henderson – two midfielders – in central defence.
Matip, who joined the Reds from Schalke almost five years ago, did light sessions at the Axa Training Centre last week.
But Klopp has confirmed in a pre-match press conference ahead of Burnley today that he’s training normally, but didn’t reveal whether he’d start at Anfield against the Clarets:
He said via The Echo: “So first, Joel is in full training and we make a decision. Trained normal.”
