Jurgen Klopp is putting his faith in Jarell Quansah to step up if Liverpool need cover in defence this season.
Jarell Quansah could be primed for a bigger role at Liverpool this season having caught the attention Jurgen Klopp.
That is according to The Athletic, who claim that Liverpool chose not to sign a new defender over the summer.
Fans had been calling for a new centre back to come in, potentially a natural left-footed option.
Liverpool felt that the right player just wasn’t available though and were prepared to wait until 2024 to find another defender.
Joel Matip is out of contract in 2024 and it looks like Liverpool will let him leave in order to bring in a new defender.

The report adds that Liverpool are happy to trust Quansah to step up if injuries hit.
We have seen Liverpool suffer many defensive injuries over the years, so having trust in Quansah is vital.
Nat Phillips has been sent on loan to Celtic, something Liverpool surely wouldn’t have done without that belief in Quansah.
Klopp utilised Quansah in pre-season and seems to have seen enough to believe that he can make a Premier League impact when called upon.

Who is Liverpool talent Quansah?
Quansah hails from Warrington and joined the Liverpool ranks at the age of just five.
The 6ft 3in defender has made his way up through the Liverpool system to now work around the first team.
Now 20, Quansah has featured for England all the way up from Under-16 to Under-20 level but could represent Barbados, Ghana or Scotland too.
Quansah went out on loan to Bristol Rovers earlier in the year and was handed a Premier League debut as a substitute against Newcastle United last month.
Klopp has hailed Quansah as ‘super talented’ and it looks like the youngster is now the fifth-choice centre back for Liverpool as he continues to progress at Anfield.
