Rangers are reportedly looking to lure Harry Wilson to Ibrox.
When Rangers decided to take the gamble and make Steven Gerrard their new manager, links to a host of Liverpool players were almost inevitable.
Gerrard, 37, is not only a Liverpool legend having spent the majority of his career with the club, but he also served as the club’s Under-18 boss last season.
Whilst deals to bring Allan McGregor and Scott Arfield to Ibrox were already in the pipeline before Gerrard was appointed Rangers manager, he will now have the chance to pursue deals of his own.
The Sun report that Gerrard is now calling on a favour from Liverpool, as he wants to take Reds talent Harry Wilson on loan for next season.
The Welsh wide man dazzled out on loan at Hull City in the second half of this season, hitting seven goals and three assists in just 13 games to help the Tigers stay in the Championship.
A move to Rangers would make sense, enabling him to work with Gerrard before heading back to Liverpool, but manager Jurgen Klopp will now face a real dilemma on where to send his 21-year-old winger.
It’s noted that Huddersfield Town are one of the clubs ready to rival Rangers for Wilson, and that leaves Klopp torn on which manager to aid, given that Huddersfield boss David Wagner was the best man at Klopp’s wedding.
The pair have shared a close relationship over the years, with Klopp loaning goalkeeper Danny Ward to Huddersfield in recent years, but that is now rivalled by his relationship with Gerrard, giving the Reds two real options when loaning Wilson out.
Ultimately, Klopp will be safe in the knowledge that either manager will take good care of Wilson and give him the playing time needed, but the loser in this race will feel disappointed with Klopp’s decision, and few would envy the choice potentially facing the German.
