James Maddison is one of the best players at Tottenham Hotspur, but Jamie Carragher does not think that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes that he is good enough for his side.

Tottenham Hotspur will take on Liverpool at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday.

James Maddison is set to start for Tottenham.

The £170,000-a-week (The Telegraph) playmaker joined Tottenham from Leicester City in the summer transfer window.

And, he has hit the ground running at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The 26-year-old England international attacking midfielder has scored two goals and given four assists in six Premier League appearances so far this season.

Tottenham are very much in the running for the Premier League top four this season.

Jamie Carragher on Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and James Maddison

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has raved about Maddison and has outlined his attributes.

The former Liverpool defender has also given his theory as to why Reds manager Jurgen Klopp did not try to sign him in the summer of 2023.

Carragher wrote in The Telegraph: “His throwback style extends to his on-field role. With the utmost respect to Maddison and Spurs, it explains why his options during the summer did not include Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool.

“I have no doubt all watched him for Leicester and at some point over the last three years considered signing him. The reason they said no is because Maddison’s most effective position is unfashionable for elite coaches. “

Carragher added: “My suspicion is that Guardiola, Klopp, Mikel Arteta and Mauricio Pochettino took a look at Maddison and were swayed more by what he does not do more than his qualities.

“In their best sides, Guardiola and Klopp expect multi-faceted attacking players or midfielders to assume the responsibility of those who once placed themselves just behind the main striker.

“Maddison is not the quickest, nor does he stand-out as someone who will trigger a high-pressing game. He does not have the natural athleticism of a number 8, and he is less effective playing as a wide attacker cutting inside.”

Tottenham Hotspur star James Maddison could hurt Liverpool

In our view, James Maddison could be a vital player for Tottenham Hotspur against Liverpool in the Premier League game this weekend.

Maddison is a natural number 10, and the way that Spurs head coach Ange Postecoglou is playing his team suits the England international.

While Liverpool have a good team, defensively, they are not at their very best and are conceding goals.

Maddison has formed a very good relationship with Son Heung-min on the pitch, and we believe that the two Tottenham players could be a problem for Liverpool.
