Liverpool will welcome West Ham United to Anfield on Sunday.
Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp spoke to reporters over the weekend, and provided a potentially massive boost for his side ahead of their Premier League opener against West Ham on Sunday, by suggesting that Roberto Firmino and Trent Alexander-Arnold will both be available for the clash, as quoted by Football.London.
Klopp has already spent heavily this summer, bringing in four new players for just short of £180 million, and many fans and pundits alike are predicting that this season could finally be their year.
One particular area that still might concern Klopp, however, is his centre-forward department, with not much in reserve should Firmino be forced to miss any games this season.
The German spoke to reporters over the weekend, and delivered good news with regards to the Brazilian’s fitness ahead of Sunday’s clash with West Ham, as quoted by Football.London:
“All the rest is like it was when he [Firmino] left. It’s good to have him here, he looks in good shape. Training for the outfield players is obviously different than for the goalies, but we want to see him as well against Napoli. We will see for how long. When we start against West Ham, he will have had then two weeks after three weeks off, it should be possible but we will see. In the moment he looks good, his programme is obviously pretty different.”
He then went on to suggest that Trent Alexander-Arnold could also be ready for Sunday’s visit of the Hammers:
“He is part of most of the sessions when the boys do something different that is not the highest intensity, so then he needs to do a little bit more, like Trent will do now. Step by step, they are all coming back and it’s the best news.”
Whatever happens, Liverpool do have a wonderful squad of players to call upon, and whichever side Klopp picks, West Ham will have their work cut-out, if they are to take anything away with them from Anfield.
