Well, Liverpool stopped the rot of defeats anyway.
Jurgen Klopp’s side finished the job of beating Leipzig to move into the quarter-finals of the Champions League last night.
Liverpool secured a 2-0 win in Budapest to complete a 4-0 aggregate victory overall and it was very much needed, with the Reds having lost their last six Premier League games at Anfield.
A lot of players from the English giants impressed, but especially Thiago.
Fabinho’s return to midfield, after five months in central defence, seemed to allow the Spaniard flourish that bit more, with his range of passing catching the eye again.
It’s been a mixed first season for Thiago at Anfield; not strictly because of covid infections and injuries, but it has been suggested that the former Barcelona midfielder slows down the speed of Liverpool’s attack.
But Klopp has reiterated that it’s simply a ‘rubbish’ theory and claimed that the 29-year-old European champion had a ‘good’ performance last night.
He told The Echo: “Thiago was good, they were all good. I assume when you all [media] look at Liverpool from Germany, people say it’s (the problems) to do with Thiago or whatever – that’s rubbish.
“For the players who were new, they always needed time to get used to our gameplan but Thiago doesn’t have that.”
