Could Cody Gakpo play up front for Liverpool today?

Well, it’s possible.

It’s very possible that Jurgen Klopp is going to be without Darwin Nunez and Roberto Firmino for the visit to Brighton this afternoon.

And with Diogo Jota already sidelined, Liverpool might not have a recognised number nine available.

And therefore, it’s entirely plausible that Gakpo – who made his debut on the wing for the Reds last weekend – is going to spearhead the attack.

Mohamed Salah could continue on the right-hand side, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain or Fabio Carvalho could play on the left to Gakpo through the middle.

The Netherlands international, who joined Liverpool a couple of weeks ago, is capable of playing as a number nine.

When he joined, Sky Sports’ Vinny O’Connor revealed via HITC Sport that the plan with the former PSV star was always to use him up front when necessary.

And with Firmino and Nunez likely to be sidelined, well it certainly is important for Klopp to unleash the 23-year-old there today, but time will tell what the German manager is planning for the visit to the Amex Stadium.
