Jurgen Klopp has intimated that he is an admirer of Ruben Neves, amid speculation of Liverpool signing the Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder.

Last night, Klopp’s side beat Wolves 1-0 in an FA Cup third-round replay.

Harvey Elliott scored the only goal of the game as Liverpool edged out Wanderers en route to the fourth round of the competiton.

On Tuesday, 90 Min reported of the Reds’ interest in signing the Portugal international.

Neves played the full game against Liverpool last night and Klopp has admitted via the club’s official website that letting somebody of his quality grow into the match can ‘change everything’.

He said: “Yes, we dropped a bit deeper, I didn’t like that too much, Wolves came up a little bit. In the moment when you let Neves in the game and it changes everything pretty much.”

There’s no doubt Liverpool need a new midfielder – well, at least two actually.

But this Neves thing has come up before and Klopp has yet to make a serious move to sign the Portuguese maestro.

Besides, with the Premier League tax, Liverpool would probably have to spend a fortune on luring him to Anfield in a January transfer window.

And with Wolves only two points above the relegation zone, it makes sense from a financial perspective to wait and see if Julen Lopetegui’s troops go down, in which case Neves will be a lot cheaper.
