Jurgen Klopp has defended Liverpool star Mo Salah for his reaction to being substitued today.
The Premier League champions were held to a 1-1 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion, who scored a 93rd-minute equaliser from the penalty spot.
Klopp took Salah off for Sadio Mane on 64 minutes and the Egypt international looked very unhappy.
Salah, who had a goal ruled out by VAR in the first half, didn’t even make eye contact with the Liverpool boss as he passed him on the touchline.
But the German claims that it’s a normal reaction to being substituted, stating that he’d be a lot more concerned if the player was happy to be taken off.
He said to BT Sport after the game: “The day Mo Salah is smiling when he leaves the pitch the day something is wrong. He doesn’t like that, I know that. But we have to be careful.”
Diogo Jota opened the scoring for Liverpool on the hour mark, before Mane, Salah’s replacement, also had a goal chalked off due to VAR.
Despite the two dropped points, Klopp’s side move top of the Premier League, but a Tottenham victory away to Chelsea tomorrow would see the North Londoners leapfrog the title winners again.
