Jurgen Klopp told his Champions League press conference that Curtis Jones has been putting in performances for Liverpool like he has ‘already played 10 years for us’.

The 19-year-old has been a regular starter for Liverpool in recent weeks, both in the Champions League and in the Premier League.

In truth, if it wasn’t for Liverpool’s injury problems, he perhaps wouldn’t have earned as many minutes as he has done for his boyhood club.

But regardless of how Jones’ game time has come about, he has grasped the opportunity with both hands, as Klopp praised the attack-minded teenager.

“Curtis plays like he has already played 10 years for us,” said Klopp. “Without them [the youngsters] we would have been lost, to be honest. Without these boys.

“Thank God, it worked out. The biggest part is that they really are ready for it. They are the biggest reasons for it.”

It could be argued that since the start of the season, Jones has perhaps been Liverpool’s most improved player and someone who is now cementing his place further in that midfield.

Whilst Klopp would still select the more senior players ahead of him, when they are fit, in the meantime, Jones is doing a pretty good job in ensuring that by the time they do exit the treatment room, they have to sit straight on the bench upon their return.

Despite his young age, Jones has looked comfortable on the ball for the Reds, and despite being an attack-minded player, he has also understood the defensive side of the game really well.
