Jurgen Klopp hailed the performance of Takumi Minamino during Liverpool’s 7-0 thumping of Crystal Palace on Saturday by telling his post-match press conference he had a ‘top game’.

A forward player by nature, Klopp opted to play the 25-year-old in the middle of the park yesterday because he looked ‘really sharp’ in training for Liverpool this week.

On a crazy day at Selhurst Park, Minamino, who was making his second league start of the campaign, kicked things off by opening the scoring before the rest of his Liverpool teammates ran riot.

After the match, Klopp praised Minamino’s performance and was asked whether he will continue to use the versatile attacker in a midfield position.

“First of all, we want to use Taki, that’s it,” said Klopp. “If you play for us in midfield, you need to have offensive skills as well, so it means Taki can play there.

“In training, he looked really sharp, he was in good shape and that’s why he played today. He played a top game today. Nice finish. It’s just a good moment that’s what we want to use.

“I saw him in the dressing room and he couldn’t avoid smiling. It was all over his face, so it was a good moment and he is in a really good place and it helps us a lot.”

From conceding seven goals themselves at Villa Park, the champions of England have now dished it out themselves in fine fashion.

From beating their nearest title challengers in Tottenham earlier this week, Liverpool are sending message after message to their rivals.

Whether it’s Virgil van Dijk being injured or their seemingly leaky defence being questioned, those on Merseyside are shutting up their critics in a quite ruthless fashion.
