It never rains but it pours for Liverpool.

The Premier League champions’ title defence is almost certainly over after losing 3-1 away to Leicester City this afternoon.

A Mo Salah goal had Liverpool actually ahead with 12 minutes to go, but a late collapse – aided by another Alisson howler – saw Jurgen Klopp’s side capitulate in a big way once again.

In doing so, the Reds ended that game 10 points behind a Manchester City side that had two games in hand at the time.

Klopp’s pre-game plans had to be changed within 17 minutes when James Milner came off injured for Thiago Alcantara.

And the German manager has admitted that the veteran midfielder – who earns £75,000 per week – is absent with a hamstring problem, but he hopes it is short term.

He told BBC’s Match of the Day: “Hamstring. Hopefully it is only a little bit but we did not want to take the risk.”

This means that Milner might now be a doubt for Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Leipzig, joining Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matpi, Joe Gomez, Diogo Jota and Fabinho on the injured list right now.

It’s a huge worry for Liverpool because although Milner hasn’t been a huge player for Klopp this season, he’s still another body and for an occasion like the Champions League, his experience could’ve been invaluable.
