Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has praised striker Darwin Nunez after scoring in today’s pre-season friendly against Leicester City.

Darwin Nunez is impressing in training as the Liverpool striker gears up for his second Premier League campaign.

Liverpool were in pre-season friendly action once again today as they faced Leicester City in Singapore.

The Reds coasted to a 4-0 win with Darwin Nunez, Bobby Clark, Diogo Jota and Ben Doak all on the scoresheet.

That means Liverpool have now scored four goals in each of their three pre-season friendlies so far this summer.

The goals are flying in and Nunez is enjoying a very productive summer.

Nunez has now scored four times in three pre-season games and looks to be full of confidence.

Liverpool are looking for Nunez to kick on after just nine Premier League goals in his debut season.

The 24-year-old must kick on now and his pre-season form is certainly very encouraging.

Jurgen Klopp hails Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez

This is ideal for Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, who – just like the rest of us – saw mixed signs from Nunez last season.

The movement was usually pretty impressive but the clinical edge just hadn’t developed in his game.

Liverpool boss Klopp has now told the club’s official website that he felt Nunez just needed more time to settle in.

Klopp highlighted injuries and a silly red card against Crystal Palace as factors which held Nunez back a little.

Klopp called on Nunez and Liverpool’s other strikers to be switched on defensively if they want to play regularly.

The German did though highlight that Nunez ‘looks really good’ in training right now whilst hailing his impressive speed.

“I don’t think I have to tell our fans, it’s pretty much traditionally – or historically – for us that usually players for us, especially offensive players, [need time]. Sometimes you need more time, that’s how it is,” said Klopp. “I think the signs Darwin showed already last season were really good. Injuries and the red card were not helpful in the start directly and these things, but it’s all good.”

“They all are a threat, they all are good footballers – the ticket into the team will be the readiness for defence because you never hear about a team being really successful with sloppy defending, it just will not happen. For Darwin [it’s] the same like for all the other strikers as well because I know about the quality they have and they need to do both, like our other players have to do both as well – defend and being influential in all the offensive situations.”

“It’s good, you can see he is a handful, the speed and the goal was a typical goalscorer’s goal. Being there, smelling it and finishing it off. In training he looks really good. He is fit, that helps, and now two more games and Chelsea,” he added.
