Liverpool could be busy during the January transfer window, according to the club’s CEO.

Manager Jurgen Klopp speaks to the media during the Liverpool FC Press Conference at Anfield on August 22, 2017 in Liverpool, England.

Reds CEO Peter Moore spoke to Sky Sports regarding the upcoming January transfer window, and insisted that Jürgen Klopp will be provided with funds, should he identify any specific targets that he believes will strengthen his squad.

Liverpool have been quite simply breathtaking going forward this season, but doubts still remain as to whether they are good enough defensivley to compete for major honours.

The addition of an established centre-back will surely feature highly on the German’s wish-list in January, but having already spent heavily on Mohamed Salah, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and a deal to bring Naby Keita to Anfield next summer, it is unclear whether he will be given funds to bolster his ranks further still.

That was until the club’s CEO Peter Moore spoke to Sky Sports, however, clarifying the board’s stance on potential January investment in the playing staff:

“We haven’t been shy, people look at the Mohamed Salah acquisition as the best one of the summer and we’re already bringing in Naby Keita next summer. That money has been spent, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has also been brought in. The investments are being made and it’s hard to knock what you’re seeing on the field now and say ‘oh you should be spending more money.’ What I will say, because I know you are leading up to the question about January, the club continues to look at acquisitions that will strengthen the squad.”

If Klopp is sufficiently backed during the transfer window, and he makes the correct addition(s), Liverpool could be a major force this season, both domestically and on the continent.

The only thing on the German’s mind at the moment, however, will be the Merseyside Derby on Sunday, a game that can be seen exclusively live on Sky Sports at 14:15.
