Patryck Klimala has revealed that tough training-ground sessions against Celtic team-mate Christopher Jullien inspired him to hit the weights during lockdown.
Neil Lennon’s Celtic players returned to Lennoxtown last month and the young Polish hitman looks to have undergone a transformation during the hiatus.
Klimala, who joined the Hoops in January, looked physically more imposing than he had done prior to Scottish football being suspended back in March.
And the 21-year-old has told the club’s official website that coming up against 6’5 powerhouse Jullien in training made him think that he needed to bulk up a tad.
Klimala said: “It was a simple decision for me to go to the gym during lockdown. When I was on the pitch with, say, Chris Jullien, for example, it was really hard. I didn’t have any chance – that’s why I wanted to bulk up and I think that it’s better for me. I feel better and hopefully the guys think the same.”
It’ll be fascinating to see if Klimala’s hard work in the gym yields results on the pitch.
Celtic are going for 10-in-a-row next season and what a boost for Lennon if his £3 million striker starts banging in the goals soon.
With Leigh Griffiths left behind on their pre-season tour of France, there’s extra responsibility on Klimala to start delivering during the 2020-21 campaign potentially, having managed only 14 minutes of Premiership after joining earlier this year.
