Mateusz Klich has endured a dismal stay at Elland Road since his summer move to Leeds.
Leeds fans were genuinely optimistic when Mateusz Klich put pen to paper on a transfer at Elland Road. A fee of £1.5million, 10 Poland caps and a regular at FC Twente gave them reason to be excited.
But the 27-year-old has struggled to make any kind of impact with the Yorkshire giants, featuring just four times in the Championship and starting just one of those matches.
Klich remains behind the likes of Kalvin Phillips, Ronaldo Vieira, Eunan O’Kane and even youngster Conor Shaughnessy, while Vurnon Anita can also play in the middle of the park, with the January transfer window approaching.
Leeds’ number 43 will be considering his options with Polish outlet Przegladsportowy reporting that Klich is unhappy at Leeds, and if he is looking to leave then fellow summer signing Madger Gomes should be doing the same – but on loan.
Gomes, 20, was another member of the summer influx of players at Elland Road following the appointment of manager Thomas Christiansen and director of football Victor Orta, signed on a free from Liverpool’s second string.
However, like Klich, Gomes has hardly got a look in. In fact, the central midfielder is likely to be ranked below Klich in the pecking order after being trusted with just two Carabao Cup appearances against Port Vale and Newport County.
After an impressive pre-season, Gomes would have been optimistic over his chances of breaking into the first team but it simply has not happened for the Spanish-born prodigy.
Gomes needs first-team football to further his education in professional football and if Klich cannot get any sort of game time under Christiansen, then Gomes will definitely not.
A loan move to League One club, or even up north to Scotland would be perfect for Gomes, in order to further his development and come back to Leeds in the summer with that same optimism of breaking into the first team.
