Rangers’ Under-23 side have been in Spain this week.
Rangers Under-23 manager Billy Kirkwood has told the club’s website that he was impressed with new signing Glenn Middleton and long-term injury absentee Jordan Rossiter, as the duo continue to shine in Spain.
Rangers’ second string are currently on a training camp in Spain, where they have gone up against Villarreal and Valencia and will face Levante on Tuesday.
Rossiter, 20, captained Rangers’ second string for 60 minutes of the 1-0 win over Valencia on Monday, which saw striker Zak Rudden scoring the only goal of the game.
New signing Middleton, who joined the club from Norwich City in January, also got 45 minutes to showcase his talent as both players look to follow the likes of David Bates and Ross McCrorie into the first team.
“Yeah he [Middleton] got 45 minutes. It was nice to get him integrated into the squad,” Kirkwood said. “David [McCallum] and myself have sat down with him and we went through what his targets are going to be for the remainder of the season.
“He’s looking forward to the educational side of it in terms of his positional play and what is expected of him in possession and out of possession. Of course, we were joined by Jordan Rossiter who played 60 minutes.
“He got through the game with no problems and flying colours. Hopefully, there is no adverse reaction to that 60 minutes, but you’ve got to remember Jordan is still a young lad, he’s still 20. So to get his quality in amongst our lads was fantastic.”
Former Liverpool midfielder Rossiter’s return to action cannot come soon enough as the injury-prone midfielder can help replace injured trio McCrorie, Graham Dorrans and Ryan Jack in the middle of the park.
It may take 18-year-old Middleton slightly longer to break into Murty’s first team, but he certainly will not have done his chances any time after featuring for half of the win over Valencia.
