Tottenham Hotspur have taken a look at Kion Etete.
Notts County forward Kion Etete has told All Nigeria Soccer that he wants to be a first-team regular in the next five years, wherever that may be.
Etete, 17, has come up through the Notts County ranks, and looks set to follow in the footsteps of former County youngster Jermaine Pennant in earning a Premier League move.
The striker has already made six first-team appearances for the Magpies, and his potential with the League Two club appears to have sparked interest in his signature.
Earlier this month, Tottenham confirmed on their official website that Etete played as a trialist in an Under-18 game against West Ham United – and the striker certainly impressed.
Etete hit two goals in his first game in a Spurs shirt, so it would be little surprise to see Spurs return with a concrete move for the striker this summer.
Spurs may already have Troy Parrott, but developing another young striker behind Harry Kane may well be on the wish list for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
Now, Etete has not only discussed the possibility of switching his international allegiance to play for Nigeria instead of England, but has also described himself as ‘quick and strong’, even adding that he wants to play regular first-team football in the next five years – and he must consider whether that will realistically come with Spurs, given Kane’s untouchable role at the club.
“I only played grassroots football before I joined Notts County,” said Etete. “‘I’m eligible to represent England and Nigeria, maybe one other, I’m not sure, and it would be an honour (to play for Nigeria) but would have to consult with my parents before making a decision.”
”I’d like to think that I’m a quick, strong striker and love taking shots at goal. In the next five years I want to be playing regular first team football at the highest level I possibly can,” he added.
