Kion Etete has sent a heartfelt message to Tottenham Hotspur after completing a permanent move to Cardiff City this summer. The striker leaves Spurs just three years after joining the club from Notts County.

Etete, 20, failed to make a single first-team appearance with the likes of Troy Parrott and Dane Scarlett considered ahead of him. That is, despite scoring 10 goals in 26 appearances for the club’s under-21 side.

He has now left after three years – in which he went on loan to Northampton and Cheltenham – to join Cardiff. He has penned a three-year deal with Steve Morison’s Championship club, costing a six-figure fee.

Following the move, Etete took to Instagram to thank Tottenham. He went out of his way to send a message to the club’s staff for their hard work in trying to improve him as a player, following his move to Wales.

Ultimately, Etete had to leave Tottenham. Not least because Harry Kane is blocking the path for any first-team involvement for a striker. It has also seen Parrott and Scarlett leave on loan, joining Preston and Portsmouth.

With Etete now 20, and behind the aforementioned duo – and Kane – he was never going to establish himself in the Spurs first team. A move to Cardiff is a brilliant one, and he will now be focusing on breaking into the starting XI.

Given he has only played at League Two and League One standard previously, Etete is likely to start on the bench. But it is a long season and Cardiff needed a striker. So, before long, he might be in the side and scoring goals.

Cardiff got their season off to a flyer, with a 1-0 win over recently-relegated Norwich City last weekend. Morison and Etete will certainly be habouring ambitions of a top-six finish come May.
