Rangers striker Jermain Defoe has enjoyed a great career – and now he’s helping up-and-coming youngsters.

Defoe is now 37, and is still finding the net. Since joining Rangers in January 2019, Defoe has hit 25 goals in 52 games.

The veteran may be approaching his 40’s, but he’s still a natural goalscorer. Virtually every club he’s played for has reaped the rewards of Defoe’s predatory instincts.

No club knows that better than Tottenham Hotspur. Defoe joined Spurs from London rivals West Ham United in 2004, and he smashed 64 goals in 177 games.

After just a year at Portsmouth, Defoe returned to Spurs in 2009. In his second spell with Tottenham, he hit 79 goals in 186 games.

His combined record makes him one of the modern day Tottenham heroes, and Defoe is now giving advice to the current Spurs strikers.

Kion Etete – who joined Spurs from Notts County in 2019 – has admitted to Tottenham’s official website that Defoe gave ‘incredible’ insight during an online Q&A session.

Etete noted that the Rangers ace spoke about keeping a ‘winning menatlity’ in training and in games, and Spurs would no doubt love to see Etete follow in Defoe’s footsteps.

“Jermain gave us some incredible insight into his career and spoke about motivation as well. It was great and I was able to absorb a lot of points that he made,” said Etete.

“He spoke about maintaining that winning mentality in training as well as in games and explained to us how in every shooting session when he’s training, he feels he has to score every goal and settles for nothing less – that’s obviously a massive help when it comes to playing games and a brilliant example for us as young players to try to follow,” he added.
