Mark Warburton’s Glasgow Rangers side moved up to second in the Scottish Premiership with the win.

Jamie MacDonald has labelled Rangers’ performance in their 3-0 win over Kilmarnock as excellent and hinted that Lee Clark’s men were surprised given their own confidence going into the Ibrox clash, The Scottish Sun reports.

The Gers were looking to bounce back from their League Cup semi-final defeat and disappointing midweek draw with St Johnstone when they faced Killie.

And they did so in emphatic fashion as Lee Wallace, Andy Halliday and Joe Garner led the Light Blues to their biggest league win of the season.

And MacDonald hinted that Rangers’ impressive display perhaps took the away side by surprise given their recent results.

“Rangers were excellent but we are disappointed we didn’t hit the heights we have done in the last few matches,” he said, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

“We thought we had them at a good time when they were under a little bit of pressure with not getting the results they wanted recently.

“We were coming off probably our best performance of the season against Hearts.

“We came in full of confidence but Rangers were excellent.”

While Mark Warburton’s men have not always been at the races this season, even on some of the occasions when they have won, the victory propelled the side into second place in the Scottish Premiership table.

And although they may already be too far back in the title race given how Celtic are currently playing, the fact that they have often been below par and yet still sit second should send a message to the rest of the league that it is a huge mistake to assume that Rangers are in crisis.
