Kevin Kilbane felt Tottenham Hotspur’s first-half showing was disappointing.
Kevin Kilbane has told BBC Sport that Tottenham Hotspur put in a “really, really poor performance” during the first half of their 1-1 draw at Everton on Saturday.
Both sides settled for a share of the spoils at Goodison Park yesterday as Spurs bounced back from a dismal first-half showing on Merseyside.
Ross Barkley fired Everton ahead after just four minutes, but Spurs’ response was minimal and they could – and maybe should – have been more than one goal behind at the break.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side managed just one attempt at goal in the first period – which was off target – and Kilbane, who spent three years at Everton, says it was disappointing from the North Londoners.
“Really, really poor performance from Tottenham in the first half. They moved the ball slowly around the pitch and looked lethargic,” he told BBC Sport.
“Pochettino will certainly have asked for more from his players at half-time.”
In their defence, Tottenham looked a lot better after the break and grabbed an equaliser on the hour mark when Erik Lamela restored parity to the scoreline.
Still, this was a very tricky opening match for both sides and Pochettino nor Ronald Koeman will be overly disappointed. Both managers, you’d imagine, would have gladly taken a point before kick-off.
