Rangers teenager Kieran Wright has confirmed on Twitter that he has put pen to paper at Ibrox on a new contract, as he remains on loan with third-tier Scottish side Albion Rovers.

Wright, 17, is one of a number of goalkeepers at Auchenhowie looking to make the breakthrough into the Rangers first team and a new contract will be a sure sign that manager Graeme Murty is keeping tabs on his development.

The teenage stopper had just a matter of months remaining on his current Rangers deal, which was set to expire on May 31 and would have seen Wright forced to look for another club on the free-agent scrapheap.

However, he posted his delight on Twitter at extending his Rangers stay, as he is expected to continue his progression in Rangers youth sides before having a crack at the first team in the near future.

Wright is just one of a number of goalkeepers at Ibrox, with Wes Foderingham firmly planted as the Gers’ number one. Jak Alwnick remains his back-up after joining from Port Vale in January 2017, while Liam Kelly is considered third choice.

After the trio, there are plenty of stoppers such as Wright looking to be heard. Robby McCrorie, Aidan McAdams, Brian Kinnear and Lewis Muir are all dreaming of a place in the Gers first team.

But Wright, who has four Scotland Under-19 caps despite his tender age, will be buoyed by the new deal which is yet to be confirmed by Rangers’ official pages.
