Trippier joined Tottenham from Burnley in the summer of 2015 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £3.5 million.
The 26-year-old right-back arrived at White Hart Lane with a strong reputation, but for the past two seasons he was the second-choice in that position behind Kyle Walker.
Now that Walker has left for Premier League rivals Manchester City, Trippier will get his chance to establish himself in Mauricio Pochettino’s starting lineup.
It must have been tough for the England international to play second fiddle to his compatriot, especially as he was a regular at Burnley.
Trippier, though, has made it clear that he did not think for a moment of leaving Tottenham due to his status as an understudy when Walker was at Tottenham.
“No, because when I first came here, I knew it was going to be difficult because I had Walker ahead of me,” said Trippier on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports Football on Saturday afternoon (broadcast from 12pm, August 26, 2017) when asked if he had thought about leaving Tottenham in order to be a regular.
“I had to find my feet because obviously the training was obviously different and stuff, but I always believed and believed, and I just knew that I needed to keep working hard in the training field and when I got my opportunities, I need to try and take them.”
