Tottenham Hotspur failed to score against Swansea City in their latest contest.

Kieran Trippier of Spurs goes off injued during the pre-season match between Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus at Wembley Stadium on August 5, 2017 in London, England.

Kieran Trippier has bemoaned Tottenham Hotspur’s wastefulness in front of goal, during an interview with the Telegraph.

Tottenham’s struggles at Wembley in the Premier League this season continued again at the weekend, as Mauricio Pochettino’s side were held to a 0-0 draw by Swansea City.

Spurs had ample chances to win the match, but a combination of their profligacy in front of goal, and some poor refereeing decisions, cost the North London outfit what would have been an important three points.

And Trippier admits that Spurs must start to become more ruthless in front of goal, if they are to live up to their potential this season.

“We needed to be more clinical in front of goal,” the right-back, who has recently signed a new contract with Spurs, said.

“We know how good we are as a team and as individuals, but today it was not to be. It’s nothing to do with Wembley. In every game we’ve played here we’ve looked comfortable. We should start having that clinical edge in front of goal. It’s happened again today. We played very well but the chances didn’t go our way.”

Harry Kane arguably had Tottenham’s best chance of the contest, but his shot struck the bar from close range.

Trippier also came close to scoring in the match, but his long-range strike went just wide of the Swansea goal.

Tottenham have now dropped more points at home this term than they did in the whole of last season, after losing to Chelsea and drawing with both Swansea and Burnley.
