Tottenham defender Trippier is set to shine in this summer’s World Cup with Russia.
Tottenham Hotspur defender Kieran Trippier has told the club’s website that he has been impressed by the breakthrough talent of Kyle Walker-Peters throughout the 2017-18 campaign.
Walker-Peters, 21, made his Tottenham debut in Spurs’ opening Premier League game of the season, and he won the man of the match award as the north Londoners beat Newcastle United 2-0.
In total, he went on to make nine appearances in all competitions, laying on two assists and even finding the back of the net once himself in the 6-1 thrashing of Rochdale in the FA Cup.
Trippier applauded Walker-Peters during an interview with his club side, stating that the rivalry for a place on the right side of defence does not only exist between himself and Serge Aurier, but Walker-Peters too.
“At this Club you need to make sure your standards are high every day and the manager demands that,” Trippier said.
“So when Serge came in it was a motivation for me and I don’t want to leave Kyle Walker-Peters out of this either, he’s been excellent, has a great attitude and a great future.
“You need competition and if you look around our squad there is competition all around the place and Serge, plus Kyle, is no different.”
Trippier, 27, is currently doing battle with former Spurs teammate Kyle Walker and Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold for a place on the right side of England’s defence ahead of the World Cup.
He could start against Nigeria on Saturday as England play host to the Africans at Wembley before a second warm-up match against Costa Rica at Elland Road, prior to flying out to Russia.
