Kieran Trippier has established himself into a top defender for Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham Hotspur full back Kieran Trippier says that he is constantly improving while playing against top players in Europe.
The 27-year-old has made eight Premier League appearances this season (including seven starts) and has registered four assists in the league already.
The England defender has also made two appearances in the Champions League where he claimed two assists.
Trippier admits that the competition within the Tottenham squad is fierce. Last season, he had to fight for places with Kyle Walker (his England teammate), and this season he has a strong competitor in Serge Aurier.
“Me and Walks (Walker) are great — whoever gets the nod, we’ll help each other,” said Tripper, as quoted by The Times. “When Serge came in, I had nothing against it. I believe in my own ability.”
Aurier joined Spurs in the summer from French club Paris Saint-Germain, and provides healthy competition for Trippier for the right back role.
The Ivory Coast international has made five Premier League appearances already, and has started in three Champions League games.
Trippier says that Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino demands a lot from his players.
The former Burnley defender outran Real Madrid’s Marcelo at Wembley during Spurs’ famous win last Wednesday. He has hailed Marcelo as a “quality” left-back.
