Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney has paid tribute to Celtic icon Scott Brown on Instagram.
On Saturday, Brown announced that he was hanging up his boots at the age of 36.
Before joining Arsenal in a £25 million deal three years ago, Tierney was Brown’s teammate at Celtic for a number of years.
Under Brendan Rodgers, the pair won a couple of domestic trebles as the Hoops dominated Scottish football like nobody else before them.
Overall, Brown won 10 Premiership titles and 12 Scottish and League Cup crowns during his trophy-laden spell at Parkhead which spanned 14 years.
In terms of decorated captains, the midfield general skippered the Bhoys to a lot of honours during his time in Glasgow.
Here’s how the Arsenal left-back reacted on Instagram to the announcement:
Future captain
You can see Brown’s influence on Tierney in some Gunners’ training photos, generally during the winter months.
At Lennoxtown, regardless of whether it was sunny or snowy, ‘Broony’ would wear a short-sleeved shirt and shorts, while his teammates sported more layers than an onion.
And at London Colney, regardless of the weather, you can see the 24-year-old take an identical approach to his former Celtic teammate.
With Alexandre Lacazette leaving Arsenal this summer, there’s going to be a vacancy for the captaincy.
Tierney has already demonstrated his leadership at Arsenal and it wouldn’t be a massive surprise if he, like Brown did at Celtic, wins the armband.
If he’s half as successful with it as Brown was up North, well suffice to say the Gunners’ faithful will be extremely happy.
