Stuart Armstrong has been playing well for Celtic this season. The midfielder was a fringe player at the Bhoys during the 2015-16 campaign, but under manager Brendan Rodgers this campaign, he has taken his game to a new level.

The Scotsman has been deployed in a central midfield position, and that has helped him raise his game. The 24-year-old, who has scored 12 goals this season, could actually start for Scotland against Slovenia in the 2018 World Cup qualifier at Hampden Park.

Armstrong’s performances have impressed his Celtic and Scotland international teammate Kieran Tierney. The 19-year-old left-back has showered praise on the midfielder.

“He’s a great player and we knew that before he came to Celtic,” Tierney told The Glasgow Evening Times about Armstrong. “Even at Dundee United he was excellent.

“This season his goal-scoring record for a midfielder and the amount of games he’s played is brilliant.”

“Yeah he’s been brilliant, especially with the goals he scores,” added Tierney. “But it’s not just about that, he works hard for the team.

“He’s a proper team player and everything he does is for that. At Celtic there are so many candidates for player of the season it’s probably the tightest one.”

Celtic are at the top of the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 83 points from 29 matches, 25 points clear of second-placed Aberdeen.

The Glasgow giants will return to action next weekend when they take on Heart of Midlothian away from home at the Tynecastle Stadium in the league.
