Celtic defender Kieran Tierney has praised the fans on the club’s official website for the atmosphere they created against Steven Gerrard’s Rangers at Celtic Park last weekend.

Brendan Rodgers’s side got the better of Ibrox club Rangers 1-0 at home in the Old Firm derby last weekend.

Scotland international left-back Tierney featured in the match, and the 21-year-old has praised the Celtic fans for the atmosphere they created during the Scottish Premiership encounter.

There were fewer Rangers fans in the away end than in previous years due to changes in the ticket allocation, as stated on Celtic’s official website.

Tierney told Celtic’s official website: “You notice the difference with the atmosphere. You’re used to growing up and watching it on TV and it’s the same section every time. When it’s like that, though, it only helps us.

“The atmosphere was brilliant, from the start right the way through to the end. The fans are always with you and that’s what you always need. It was a win for them as well.”

Title challenge

Rangers have a good squad, and there is renewed optimism among the Ibrox fans with Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard in charge of the Gers.

However, the defeat to Celtic will have come as a blow to Rangers, who have to put together a run of positive results after the international break.

As for Celtic, the Hoops are firm favourites for the Scottish Premiership title yet again this season.
