Celtic booked their place in the knockout stages of the Europa League despite suffering a defeat.

The Bhoys went into their clash with Anderlecht on Tuesday night knowing that anything better than a three-goal defeat would ensure that their European journey would continue after Christmas as it would secure third place in their Champions League group.
It was a disappointing result for Celtic in isolation as a Jozo Simunovic own goal meant that they lost 1-0 to the Belgian side, but it was enough to ensure that they kept Anderlecht below them in the group.
It would have been a special night for Brown who surpassed Kenny Dalglish to hold the record for most European Cup or Champions League appearances by a Scotsman with his involvement at Parkhead. And Tierney not only hailed the Hoops skipper for passing the record, but he also was full of praise for the midfielder’s display on the night.
“He’s a club legend,” he told the club’s official website. “It’s brilliant for me to work under him as a player and learn from him. I’m learning from the best.
“Tonight Broony dug in as he always does and he was brilliant. He’s solid for us in the middle of the park and he demands the best from us and we all work hard as a team for him.”
Brown’s consistency is arguably a key reason why Celtic have been so dominant over the last couple of years domestically, and have been able to make more of an impact on the European stage.
The Hoops would be forgiven for allowing some complacency to creep into their game, but Brown has arguably ensured that, even when they are not at their best, they often find a way to win and keep all of their domestic rivals at arm’s length.
