Celtic take on Alloa Athletic in the Betfred Cup later today and will be hoping to improve on their 2-2 draw with Inverness Caledonian Thistle at the weekend.

The Bhoys might have won that game if a rasping effort from left-back Kieran Tierney had found the back of the net, and not cannoned off the bar, in what proved a frustration afternoon.

Tierney has continued to improve under the management of his new boss Brendan Rodgers and the teenager has been speaking about the added pressure this has brought for his game.

Tierney told the Glasgow Evening Times how he is handling being a more regular member of the first-team at Celtic Park:

“A year ago the expectations were not high.

“I was just a young boy coming into the team. Maybe I had a bit more freedom but now everyone knows who I am and they expect me to play well. That’s harder but it’s what every footballer has to deal with.”

Tierney made his breakthrough last term under the management of Ronny Deila and has remained a vital member of the team under the new boss this season.

Now a full Scotland international he has also been keeping experienced Honduran left-back Emilio Izaguirre out of the side, which is no mean feat.

Celtic fans will hope that their young talent can continue to thrive under the pressure of playing for the club.
