Celtic managed to bring Patrick Roberts back for another loan, and Kieran Tierney has confirmed that he knew about the deal before it was confirmed.

Kieran Tierney has suggested that he knew that Patrick Roberts was on his way back to Celtic a significant amount of time before the loan deal for the Manchester City prospect was confirmed, but was forced to keep quiet, the Evening Times reports.

Roberts enjoyed a sensational first loan spell at Parkhead, and there was no question that he was one of the players that Hoops fans craved seeing signed once again during the summer window.

And after months of speculation, the 20-year-old did return to the Bhoys, joining on a season-long loan deal. And Tierney explained that having known that the former Fulham man was on his way, he had to take a vow of silence until it was all confirmed.

“I knew he was coming back before most! I knew for a wee while before obviously all the paperwork was done and I knew that he was looking to get back up but I was sworn to secrecy! I had promised to keep my mouth shut.” he said, as reported by the Evening Times.

“I haven’t seen him yet so I am looking forward to catching up with him today.”

There is no doubt that bringing Roberts back was a masterstroke for Brendan Rodgers’ men, as he demonstrated last season that he can make a major impact both on the domestic and European stage.

And with Roberts still so young, playing for Celtic for another year should only enable him to get even better as he plays in a side that go into almost every game in the Scottish Premiership on the front foot and spending much of their time getting forward.

And while Manchester City may well have big plans for the England under-20 starlet, Celtic fans will be hoping that there is a chance that Roberts’ return proves so successful that a more permanent switch appeals to the winger if the chance presents itself at some point down the line.
