Tottenham Hotspur’s Under-18 side were beaten by Aston Villa earlier this week.
Kieran McKenna’s comments on Tottenham’s official site suggest that the club’s Under-18 side are experiencing similar issues to the first-team.
Spurs have an exciting crop of youngsters breaking through, but McKenna doesn’t feel that they are getting the results they deserve at the moment.
The Lilywhites’ youth side lost 3-2 to Aston Villa at the weekend and McKenna believes their play in both boxes was sloppy.
“We more than merited the goals that we got, however it’s important that the players reflect on their ability to win games and to kill games off at the attacking end whenever we’re having these chances.
“Also the defenders have to make sure that, while we’re attacking, they keep the door shut at the other end.
“Overall, on the balance of play in between the penalty boxes, the performance was of a good level but it was very disappointing at both ends of the pitch in terms of the execution.”
It rather sums up the struggles that Tottenham’s first-team are experiencing at the moment, too, and that is a concern.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side generally put together some excellent, eye-catching football, but their lack of ruthlessness is their main problem.
Spurs have let in too many sloppy goals all season, while they have also relied on Harry Kane to score the bulk of their goals.
When Kane does not fire, the rest of the team do not seem to have the cutting edge to hit the back of the net and they will need to start being more clinical if they are to break into the top-four next season.
