Former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has been singing the praises of a certain Daniel Sturridge.

The England international joined the Reds under Rodgers back in 2013 and was released by the Anfield club last summer.

Sturridge, who was most recently at Trabzonspor, endured a tough couple of final years at Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

But the 30-year-old was lethal under the Northern Irishman for a time and almost helped the club to a Premier League title during his first full season on Merseyside, scoring 22 goals in 29 games in the 2013-14 campaign.

In addition to being a prolific goalscorer, Sturridge also clocked up the injuries, and Rodgers, now at Leicester City, has suggested to The Beautiful Game podcast that the player could’ve been so much more if not for his fitness problems.

He said: “If he didn’t have the injuries he had. This kid had everything. For 18 months he just lit up the Premier League. He had everything.

“You talk about power, touch, speed, finishing, celebrations, everything! He scored all types of goals.”

The former Manchester City and Chelsea attacker was released by the Turkish club earlier this year, and is currently a free agent.

Despite a low-profile end to his Liverpool career in terms of appearance, Sturridge did finish his five-and-a-half year spell with a Champions League winners medal.
