Ki joined Newcastle on a free transfer from Swansea City.
Newcastle United summer signing Ki Sung-Yeung has told the Evening Chronicle that he is looking forward to working under manager Rafa Benitez during the 2018-19 campaign, after signing for The Toon.
The 29-year-old has signed a two-year deal with Newcastle after his contract at Swansea expired following their relegation, and has only just returned to pre-season training at The Toon following his participation at the World Cup.
But he was introduced into Tuesday night’s 2-2 draw against Hull City, coming on for the last 20 minutes of the match against the Championship side at the KCOM Stadium.
Following the match, Ki spoke of his admiration for ex-Real Madrid and Liverpool manager Benitez and believes the Spaniard can help organise the Toon once again ahead of what is likely set to be another fight against the drop.
“Rafa has a lot of experience in the Premier League and Champions League so I believe that he can improve me a lot,” Ki said. “The way I play football and as an individual and my team-play.
“He can help make us organised. I believe this season we are looking forward to working with Rafa. I want to show my ability in each game.”
Ki was brought in as a straight replacement for Mikel Merino, who has since left Newcastle to join La Liga outfit Real Sociedad earlier this month.
Newcastle still have FC Porto and German outfit Augsburg to face, before going up against Tottenham at St. James’ Park in the first Premier League fixture of the season.
