The Ugandan talent was a player of interest for both clubs in the summer.

Last summer Rangers and Aberdeen were both interested in signing Ugandan midfielder Khalid Aucho. Then at Kenyan side Gor Mahia he spent most of last summer linked with a move to Rangers.

Mark Warburton and his coaching staff looked all set to cast their eye over the Gor Mahia midfielder last summer, after it was confirmed he was set to head to Glasgow for a trial by Goal.com.

Aucho then clarified his position, telling Supersport he was actually on his way to Scotland for a trial with Aberdeen – and not the Ibrox side.

In the end, no deal came about. Aucho signed for South African side Baroka FC and looked set to continue his career in Africa.

However, a lot has happened since the summer. He did not settle at his new team and in January he terminated his contract with the Polokwane side.

In February, after recommendation from Uganda’s national coach Milutin Sredojevic, he headed to Serbia.

He joined the historically significant side Red Star Belgrade and was immediately loaned out to OGK Beograd.

He has immediately played himself into contention for the side, who are currently bottom of the Serbian second tier and looking set for relegation.

A lot has happened for Aucho since he was considered so highly by the Scottish sides. Now he will hope to build a career at one of Serbia’s biggest clubs.
