Huddersfield Town suffered their first home defeat in front of a record crowd but head coach David Wagner is not too worried.

Huddersfield Town boss David Wagner is disappointed but can accept defeat against what he considers one of the best sides in the league, according to HTTV.

Huddersfield lost their undefeated home record and their place at the top of the Championship table today in a tight match that saw Sheffield Wednesday beat the Terriers 1-0 in front of a record crowd at the John Smith Stadium.

It was a close battle between the two Yorkshire teams and it took a hand ball from Rajiv van La Parra to gift the visiting side a penalty in the 68th minute, which Fernando Forestieri converted with pleasure.

But Wagner was happy with his squad’s efforts and believes there was little between the two sides.

Speaking to the club’s official media team after the game, he said: “If two strong sides play against each other then it’s often even, tight, and in my opinion if was today.

“We performed, we had a good effort, a good attitude, fighting attitude, a working attitude. This is a top team in this division and we are able to be a competitor against them.”

The German’s men dominated possession but were unable to threaten the Owls’ goal, only getting two out of 12 shots on target.

Wagner added: “We were in a lot of dangerous areas on the side line of the goal but maybe we were not clinical enough for the last pass, the last cross before we are able to score.

“We maybe have to find more of our men in the box but I can accept this defeat even when it’s disappointing because we performed.”

The Terriers will have to bounce back quickly if they hope to stay in play-off contention and prevent a downward slide as they head to Preston on Wednesday.

“[The players] are experienced enough to know what we have to do to be successful,” Wagner added.

“We have to perform. Sometimes you get the results, sometimes not and in the past we were always able to bounce back with a good performance. This is important and this is what we have to make sure of.”
