Kalvin Phillips has been one of the first names on the Leeds team sheet for the majority of the season.
Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips has hit back at one of his own fans on Instagram after the supporter criticised the midfielder for his new, braided haircut.
The 22-year-old midfielder remained on the field for 90 minutes on Saturday as the Whites earned a superb 2-1 win over Yorkshire rivals Barnsley – of whom Paul Heckingbottom’s left to take over at Elland Road in February.
Goals from youngster Tom Pearce and summer signing Ezgjan Alioski cancelled out Paudie O’Connor’s first-half own goal, giving Heckingbottom just his third win as Leeds boss.
Phillips has recently changed his hairstyle, and posted on Instagram following the win to congratulate defender Pearce for his goal in what was the left-back’s third start for Leeds.
But Phillips was told by a fan in the comments that “playing for Leeds isn’t a joke” due to his new haircut, and Phillips replied by describing the supporter as a “keyboard warrior”.
Phillips has been in decent form for the Whites, though his place has been under threat during Leeds’ dismal run of just three wins in 21 games. The likes of Eunan O’Kane, Ronaldo Vieira and Adam Forshaw have rivalled him for a spot.
The academy product is likely to start next time out, as Leeds play for pride against Norwich City at Carrow Road on Saturday afternoon in one of their final two Championship outings.
