Wolves signed an experienced Championship goalkeeper while Leeds gave one away.
Wolves rubber stamped their place at the top of the Championship with a 4-1 win over Leeds United on Wednesday evening.
Wolves’ attacking players like Diego Jota and Ruben Neves were a class apart, and it is little surprise considering the clubs they left were Porto and Atletico Madrid.
But the signing Wolves made who Leeds should really be jealous of is one who did not cost a penny, goalkeeper John Ruddy.
The veteran goalkeeper signed for Wolves on a free transfer in early July after his contract expired at Norwich City.
He has proved a shrewd capture, and is on course to win promotion yet again, having previously done so on more than one occasion with the Canaries.
He is just the type of player Leeds regret giving away, goalkeeper Rob Green.
Leeds signed German stopper Felix Wiedwald around the same time Wolves signed Ruddy, while also adding former Molineux stopper Andy Lonergan.
Neither signing has worked out, with Leeds fans urging the club to focus on signing a new goalkeeper.
Potential bargains will be out there, but Leeds need to think smarter, as Wolves have done.
Not all of Wolves’ big money signings are within Leeds’ grasp, but Ruddy was one they could have been able to get.
