Leeds United fans have a new hero after Pierre-Michel Lasogga announced himself to the Championship on Saturday.
Lasogga scored two goals in a 5-0 victory over Burton Albion, surpassing expectations in his first start for the club.
Fans at Elland Road gave him an ovation when he was substituted after 62 minutes after a tremendous all round performance.
What set Lasogga apart was his creativity. In 62 minutes on the pitch the German created three goalscoring chances, one of which led to an assist.
It is just one game, but three key passes per match is a figure which so far in the Championship, no player has been able to sustain.
Perhaps more impressive is how Lasogga’s link up play compares to Chris Wood, the striker he was brought into replace.
Across his time at Leeds, Wood averaged a key pass every 89 minutes, one per game.
Lasogga averages one, at this stage, every 20 minutes, and could prove to be a superior all round striker to the New Zealand international.
Losing Chris Wood might have been a blow, but Lasogga has shown with just one game that fans need not be unduly panicked.
