Glasgow Rangers have undergone a huge overhaul in their coaching staff over the past month or so.

During an exclusive interview with Rangers TV, Gers new assistant coach and former player Jonatan Johansson opened up on his excitement at the challenge ahead of him at Ibrox, lifting the lid on Pedro Caixinha’s ‘open’ approach to improving the club.

The Glasgow giants have endured a disappointing return to the Scottish Premiership this season, and currently sit in third position in the table, nine points adrift of second placed Aberdeen, and a further 26 behind bitter rivals Celtic.

The former Finland international was announced as new assistant coach at Ibrox on Sunday, and spoke to Rangers TV about how each and every coach has a very clear remit, which will lead to certain levels of accountability – something that will be vital in their quest to achieve success:

“There’s a great group of coaches and we’ll all get our specific tasks that we do in training and out of training in terms of analysing and scouting. There are very particular tasks and the manager is very open in the way that he works with the group and we know what is expected from us as coaches in the same way as the players do.”

The Ibrox faithful will be hoping that Johansson’s appointment will coincide with their club’s change in fortunes, what with his in-depth knowledge of Rangers, and Scottish football in general.

With Brendan Rodgers’ Hoops side currently so far ahead, however, in terms of both the quality of their squad and financially, the Finn will have to make quite some impact over the next year or so, if Rangers are to make a dent on their rivals superiority over them.
