Aston Villa have failed to live up to expectations in the Championship this season.

Aston Villa CEO Keith Wyness sat down for an exclusive interview with Sky Sports, broadcast at 13:37 on Wednesday March 29th, and insisted that there will be no excuses for Steve Bruce not to guide the club to promotion back to the Premier League next season.

The Villans have endured a miserable campaign in the Championship this term, following last year’s relegation from England’s top flight, and their hopes of achieving promotion this season seem to be all but over, with 11 points separating themselves and sixth placed Sheffield Wednesday, with only eight games remaining.

And Wyness, who was appointed as CEO of the club in the summer of 2016, bullishly shared his confidence in Villa’s chances of returning to the top fight next season, when speaking exclusively to Sky Sports:

“There is no doubt that getting back into the Premier League is the most important thing. The Chinese owners want to see a historical ground that they own now back in the Premier League at the top table. There’s no doubt that’s what Tony wants. It’s a pretty simple mission. Next season is very important, I’m not going to shy away from that at all. We want to try and do everything we can to get up next year. It will be an important season, we have got a great squad, and there will be no excuses for us not to go up.”

The Midlands face back-to-back home games upon the resumption of Championship action after the two week international break, and anything other than a return of six points from those outings will almost certainly end their faint hopes of finishing inside the play-off spots.

And if they do in fact miss out on a place inside the top six, there will be a lot of work to be done at Villa Park over the summer.
